List five fictional people -- from television, movies, books, whatever -- that you had a crush on as a child (or early teens).

Charlie, from Louisa May Alcott's Eight Cousins. Charlie was spoiled and arrogant and totally hot (and he died tragically young, too, which I found really attractive in my younger days)

Mordred, from T.H. White's Once and Future King. See above, only substantially less hot, and slightly hunchbacked.

Caspian, from C.S. Lewis's The Chronicles of Narnia. See above, only hotter and not spoiled.

Will Stanton, from Susan Cooper's Dark Is Rising series. Not hot OR spoiled. But smart and heroic, I guess.

Stu Redman, from Stephen King's The Stand. I read this book (all 1000+ pages of the unabridged version) over and over again until it fell apart. I totally hated Frannie for taking him away from me. Even though I was twelve and he was fictional, and it could never have worked.

{I had other crushes, too; there was Cody from Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant, Sir John Smythe from Elizabeth Peters' mysteries, Corwin from Zelazny's Amber novels; Mr. Rochester and Ashley Wilkes, Bruno and Boots of Macdonald Hall fame, Rhodry from the Deverry books. Zach, of Saved By the Bell, which I saw maybe once.)

In case you're wondering, we didn't have a tv when I was a kid, and I am deeply, deeply scarred because of it. Seriously, how uncool was I in elementary school? No one would ever spend the night and miss cartoons. All because my parents were hippies!
