Yay! This is it, guys. If I write another longish Potterfic, it will be post-Deathly Hallows! Thanks for staying with me this long--I know that some of you--[livejournal.com profile] postingwhore, and [livejournal.com profile] phoenixw, and [livejournal.com profile] pushdragon, and maybe a few others of you? Have been around for almost five years, one way or another. Y'all rock.

Even though I have yet to answer any of your lovely comments from the last chapter, I would like to point out that this is the second chapter I have written in two weeks, which entirely balances out my being a shitty person. Right?

Drabble from the Promises to Keep

for [livejournal.com profile] fee_absinthe

He knew that there was something wrong, and he knew that Draco knew, too. But he was so tired--and of course that was part of it, because that was wrong, too. But he'd never learned to ask for help, and even if he had, Draco was too young to place a burden like that on, and too nearly broken himself to bear it. He treated the symptoms he could--the nightmares, the insomnia, the hallucinations, the shaking hands that kept him from making potions. And if sometimes the cure was worse than the disease, at least it was different.

[livejournal.com profile] aldebaran1977 asked what happened to Promises to Keep, which I am still writing, I swear, the Lymond fic was a complete accident and I meant to write Promises instead! And so--cookie. This one stands alone, and I'm not sure where/ whether it will fit in the story. But no real spoilers, other than the fact that Harry and Draco get together. Which it says in the tagline anyway.

Keeping Up Appearances )

Hoping to get Chapter 2 up soon. Really.

Draco had the same nightmare a large percentage of the time. It had nothing to do with the day he'd been injured, although ironically in the dream he was running. In the dream the war was lost, and everyone he loved was dead, and someone or something pursued him with all the fury of the hounds of hell. In the dream he was always a step too slow, or he stumbled, or sometimes he gave up--but it always ended when he turned, back against the wall, to face the thing behind him, only to realize there was nothing there.

He always woke from it drenched in sweat, all of his muscles aching as if he really had been running. Sometimes even the muscles he was missing hurt. The therapist at the hospital had explained that this was not uncommon, and that it would go away on its own, or it wouldn't. He knew that even if the phantom pain in his legs faded, the agony of his right hand--fingers clenched tight around a wand that no longer existed--never would. It was the mornings after he'd had the nightmare that he wondered which loss was worse.

Erm. Consider this my attempt at writing an old school H/D, long after that seems to have gone out of fashion.
