From everyone, practically. Post a single sentence from each WIP you have. No context, no explanations. No more than one sentence.

1. He squeezes off a shot, more out of reflex than anything else, and plugs Castiel square between the eyes.

2. Cash is in bed with his cousin Eileen when his father walks in.

3. He knew, when the Locater Charm failed in the middle of a Cabinet meeting, that his son was dead.

4. Andromeda is married at midsummer, by a man wearing a bedsheet.

5. Shortly after the war ended, they passed a law prohibiting former Death Eaters from purchasing property, from running for office, and from employing wizards, house elves, goblins, and centaurs.

6. (Without Gaius Baltar, of course, there was no New Caprica.)

7. They think of themselves as decent men, they think of this as an act of war: she is a woman and she knows better.

8. And then he went into his study and closed the door, and every window and every mirror and glass and plate in the house shattered and fell in pieces on the floor.

9. She is angry with her husband, deeply and bitterly angry for things she knows are as much her fault as his, things that she will end by forgiving him, because she loves him.

10. He calls you Crawford, this old comrade-in-arms of your father’s, and he looks at you as if he meant to eat you, in the way that sometimes you have seen your father look at the woman you both pretend is your mother.

11. Two days after his birthday, John drags him to the post office to register for the draft.

12. He’s eighteen when Sam leaves for good, and he has a Colt Peacemaker his father gave him and the high school diploma Sam made him earn.

30 Rock
You Are Cordially Invited, Liz and Jack, and pot-luck and dancing and blackmail.
Jury Duty. This could actually be an episode of the show, it's so perfect.

Anne Bishop - Ephemera series
Gardening Lovely behind-the-scenes moment for Glorianna.

Arrested Development
Of Ninjas and Peppermint Ice Cream Gob and Michael pick Maeby up at school.
Domestic Disturbances This is another one of those almost could be an episode! ones.

Arrested Development/ Stephen Colbert crossover
Bang! Bang! My Baby Shot Me Down ""Mae-by!" he repeats slowly. Which is always a bad sign, in her experience. "Wishy-washy un-American name, missy, and you won't catch me saying it again. I'm going to call you ... Definitely." He gives her hand a firm shake ("Stephen T Colbert") and follows it with a swooping motion forward in his chair, attempting to unbutton his jacket in the process. The whole thing would have succeeded in being almost impressive had he not initially misjudged the position of the button, instead swiping at midair, leading to a very undignified swerve."

Battlestar Galactica (classic)
Too Late Is Better than Never--Short, sweet Starbuck/ Apollo drabble.
Beginnings--And Apollo plays Starbuck, which is a nice change.

Blades of Glory
Five Very Important Life Lessons--Cute and funny.

Bourne Identity series (movie)
Three Dead Men and the Women Who Did Not Mourn Them--Dark and troubling and utterly suited to the Bourne-verse.
Footsteps Ran Past Jason Bourne, and his ghosts.

Retail Hell--Casey and Sarah, and the downside of undercover work.

Diana Gabaldon - Lord John Grey series
Aid and Comfort--My fic, which is lovely and bittersweet and fantastic: brotherhood and death, first love and history, and beautifully written and true to the books.

Diana Gabaldon - Outlander series
Paris in the Snow--lovely, brief Claire and Jamie scene.

Diana Wynne Jones - Chronicles of Chrestomanci
Turnabout--Mordecai and Rosalie drabble, very much in the spirit of the original.
Christopher's Elephant--Hee.
La Familia--Lovely, long Chant family fic.
http://www.yuletidetreasure.org/archive/42/ofdogs.html""I think of lots of things on my own," Millie said. "And I'm past the stage where I think everything in books is real. I did go to school on my own, you know. And I got married to a huge prat. No book can adequately describe that sort of feeling."

Dodie Smith - I Capture the Castle
Written by candle-light--Lovely.

Dorothy Dunnett - The Lymond Chronicles
Noughts and Crosses--Lymond/ Gabriel, and Jerott, watching, which is something I hadn't even really dared to dream about.

The Time That Thou Hast Lost and Spent and Mon coeur se recommande a vous are both about Kate and Adam, set at the end of Checkmate, and they are very clearly written for the same prompt, and deal with it similarly, and yet are entirely different. Which is one of the most brilliant things about fanfic.

Richard Crawford
1. Is not quite as sensible as he is given credit for being--except by comparison. There was that time with two of the Queen Dowager's ladies-in-waiting, and he earned his reputation as a swordsman as much by dueling as on the battlefield.
2. Knew what his father was, and loved him anyway.
3. Has always known who Francis and Eloise's father was, since Gavin told him when he was eight, but was always afraid to bring it up for fear of driving Francis completely mad. Feels guilty about the title, but knows Francis would be a disaster as a peer.

Tom Erskine
1. Came to admire Francis Crawford, but loved his brother Richard, who was steady and kind and very nearly as intelligent, and had a great deal more bottom with it.
2. Lived long enough to be grateful he had not married Christian Stewart, though he would never have admitted it even to himself.
3. Would never have given Philippa the message about Joleta to carry, if he'd known that she would end by loving Lymond.

1. Is an expert on addiction, in every form; she recognizes it in Francis, in Jerott, because there was no drink or drug or fuck she hasn't tried.
2. Married Jerott because he loved Lymond, not despite it.
3. Foresaw her own death, and rode to it anyway.

Narcissa Malfoy
1. Didn't accept Lucius's first two marriage proposals, and wouldn't have accepted the third, if he hadn't been going away to war. She didn't sleep with him until their wedding night, either, even though she hadn't been a virgin in years.
2. Sort of had a thing for Snape in school, and was disappointed he never seemed to notice her. I t was only later that she noticed he was in love with her husband.
3. Writes and publishes best-selling self help books, under her maiden name.

Draco Malfoy
1. Isn't so much gay as he is opportunistic. This is a fairly Slytherin characteristic, actually.
2. Made enough money to buy his first racing broom when he was ten, by operating a pumpkin juice stand in the lobby of the Ministry, and suggesting to potential customers that his father would appreciate their support.
3. Was disappointed by the Revel:Torture ratio when he joined the Death Eaters. Feels that nothing less than 5:1 is acceptable.

Lucius Malfoy
1. Sort of has a thing for guns. And weapons in general. He hates Muggles, don't get me wrong, but it's sort of a wistful, they-can't be-so-bad-if-they-invented-the-AK-47 type hatred.
2. Met Narcissa in a nightclub during the war, and fell in love with her from across the room, even though he could only see her back and her umarked arms. It took him three weeks to work up the nerve to approach her, though, because she was Bellatrix's sister.
3. Once mistook Regulus Black for Snape and grabbed his ass at a Death Eater meeting. Regulus screamed like a girl and the Dark Lord was incredibly shirty about the whole thing.

1. Never knew his father, and was separated from his mother and siblings at a young age, when a garbage can raid resulted in his capture.
2. Secretly wishes Hermione was the kind of girl who would buy him diamond studded collars and pink leather leads.
3. Has used up seven of his nine lives, five of them on Mrs. Norris and/or Minerva McGonagall

Bobby Singer
1. Has two grown children who don't speak to him because they think he's crazy. He's mostly philosophical about it.
2. Was a roadie for the Country Joe and the Fish, way back in...'67, maybe. Did a lot of drugs, and protested against Vietnam, which is something John Winchester never let him live down.
3. Loves John's boys like they were his own.

John Winchester
1. Once shot a man in Reno just to watch him die. Not really. But he's been tempted. When he was in the Marines his temper was legendary, and later, sometimes it was all he could do not to take it out on his kids. And sometimes, with Sam, he still lost it.
2. Slept with Ellen and Billy Harvelle. At the same time. More than once. May or not be Jo's father, which is something he doesn't think about if he can help it. It was the 80's; everyone did it.
3. Spent a couple of nights after Mary died sitting in the front seat of Impala with a gun in his mouth, praying for the strength or the courage or the cowardice to pull the trigger.

Jessica Moore
1. Went to an all-girls Catholic school for twelve years before Stanford, and spent the whole time sneaking cigarettes in the parking lot and shortening her uniform skirt with tape.
2. Thought she was a lesbian second semester of freshman year, and had this deeply passionate, completely screwed up thing with an Asian math major named Steph.
3. Was eight days late when she died, even though she was never, ever late, even when she had mono.

Dean Winchester
1. Isn't so much straight as he is opportunistic. Has gotten almost as much action as he says he has, but stopped doing it in the car as soon as John gave him the keys.
2. Isn't nearly as blind to or accepting of his father and brother's faults as he pretends to be, but learned a long time ago that some things aren't worth fighting about.
3. Doesn't actually remember his mother, or anything that happened before he was six or so, but has lied to Sam about it so many times the stories he made up feel true.

Reposting this, just in case anyone missed it (if you didn't miss it, but think it sucks, continue to ignore)

What Sybilla is, love has made her.

White Queen )

Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] yahtzee63--The meme of the day: Ask me anything you want about any of my stories: how I thought of the idea, what I did to write it, what I was thinking when I wrote it, what I feel about it now, what I wish I'd done differently, etc.

Also, [livejournal.com profile] tryfanstone wrote me this lovely Lymond drabble, Mirror, Glass, Stone, which is about Sybilla. I think Sybilla is very much a cipher, and [livejournal.com profile] tryfanstone does a fantastic job of summing her up without changing that. Which sounded way less incoherent in my head, I promise!

As always, the super-gigantic list of Lymond fic can be found here, or in my memories. I'm also going to post it to the [livejournal.com profile] lymond community, just in case they have any additions for it--I meant to do this months ago, of course.

for [livejournal.com profile] tryfanstone,

Her hands are Lymond's, Jerott thinks the first time, when she is making love to him with the skill of a courtesan and the passion of a soldier. He knows the slender, strong fingers, tanned and calloused and capable on the reins of a horse, the strings of an instrument, the trigger of a gun. He is not sure whether he is glad or not that she is not Lymond; he wonders if she is glad he is not Gûzel. Afterward they lie together in the dark, and she whispers to him: words that are not love in a tongue that he does not recognize.
